Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated today announced its common-use passenger processing technology vMUSETM has achieved certification to the aviation industry’s CUPPS 1.1 standard.

Certification followed extensive testing of vMUSE by Lufthansa Systems, recognized as the industry’s most stringent independent Compliance Testing Entity (CTE). ARINC also completed a successful beta test program of vMUSE in cooperation with Las Vegas McCarran International Airport.

CUPPS (Common Use Passenger Processing Systems) is becoming the industry standard for uniformity in passenger processing platforms. CUPPS significantly reduces the time and effort necessary for deploying airline applications by standardizing the technical requirements, leading to cost savings and faster deployment.

“ARINC has benefited greatly from the support of IATA, ACI and ATA in developing this platform that conforms to the rigorous standards of the CUPPS Technical Specification,” stated David Kershaw, Director, Global Product Management. “We are also indebted to Samuel Ingalls of Las Vegas McCarran International Airport, whose leadership has brought this industry collaboration to a highly successful result.”

“The release of a successful CUPPS 1.1 platform makes CUPPS commercially available to all airports in the world,” stated Samuel Ingalls, Assistant Director of Aviation, Information Systems, Las Vegas McCarran International Airport. “This is a major step toward standardizing the operating arena for airports and airlines. CUPPS is the platform of the future, and we are pleased that Las Vegas McCarran is an active part of the development process."

Dietrich Hasselhorn of Lufthansa Systems, who oversaw the CTE testing process of vMUSE, commented, “Lufthansa Systems, along with major CUPPS suppliers, believes that independent proven adherence to the Technical Specification and Test Cases will assure the success of CUPPS. ARINC’s vMUSE technology has successfully passed CUPPS 1.1 compliance testing using the latest published test cases, under CTE testing managed by Lufthansa Systems, and has proven that it can successfully run any airline applications written to this CUPPS standard.”

ARINC installed the first CUPPS platform in a live operational environment at Las Vegas McCarran in January 2009. Today the McCarran CUPPS installation has handled over 250,000 passengers, proving that the ARINC CUPPS platform and ARINC’s vMUSE can easily handle multiple airlines’ applications written to the CUPPS technical standard.
