ARINC DirectSM today announced a major upgrade of its Flight Planning system, with features that include new interactive planning capability with worldwide mapping and navigation data.

SkyVector MapARINC integrated its new map technology from SkyVector, a leading online chart provider, to make flight planning much easier for customers on line.

“ARINC Direct users will now be able to view in great detail the current route offered and the aeronautical map data behind it,” said Bob Richard, ARINC Senior Director. “In the past, many of our customers have used paper navigation charts. The new integrated charts will make re-planning of flights a lot simpler for them.”

The new aeronautical charts from SkyVector can be dragged and zoomed in and out—as far out as needed—to a high enroute world chart.

“At SkyVector we have always focused on providing the best chart viewing experience on line, and we are excited to have it coupled with true world-class flight planning,” said David Graves, President of SkyVector.

Additional detailed information is available on the new ARINC chart screen in the form of “Layers” that include flight information regions (FIRs), animated radar, turbulence, icing, and winds—in addition to airmets and sigmets.

“Coupled with the integration of NACO and future EAD airfield charts into our program, we anticipate the planning experience for ARINC Direct customers will soon be greatly enhanced,” continued ARINC Director Richard. “We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our own internal staff of Flight Coordinators, who now use it.”

The enhanced Flight Planning program also displays Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) that may be in effect at locations visible on the charts. Another feature is a configurable fuel stop planner that displays ARINC fuel contract prices in real time, allowing users to make better informed decisions on fuel stops. An easy to use on-line fuel purchasing form is included.

“ARINC Direct has a robust flight planning system, and we are committed to continually improving it,” added Richard. “In our new release we have added the interactive features and tactical data many users have asked for. They can now be much more in control of the flight planning process.”

No additional costs are involved in the new ARINC Direct Flight Planning Engine. It is available on line to current ARINC Direct subscribers through their existing accounts.
