Singapore—ARINC Incorporated today announced that Cathay Pacific Airways has successfully completed a half year-long operational trial of ARINC’s AeroConnxTM Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution.

The trial had the primary objective of enhancing the efficiency of the airline’s flight operations. The AeroConnx EFB Management Suite was installed on a Cathay Pacific B777-300 aircraft, and during the trial it supported applications such as electronic charts, documents, e-techlog, e-cabinlog, and real-time credit card authorization.

Complementing the on-board AeroConnx technology, ARINC installed its GateFusionTM wireless gatelink solution at Hong Kong International Airport. The GateFusion technology enables seamless transfer of large data files such as charts and manuals between the aircraft and ground network over a secured wireless connection.

“We are pleased with the outcome of the operational trial, and I am particularly impressed by how AeroConnx is able to automate and manage the transfer of both large data files and short transactional data over multiple communication media such as satellite and VHF ACARS, Iridium and Gatelink,” commented Captain Russell Davie, General Manager Operations, Cathay Pacific Airways. “The solution has proven that we can leverage technology to focus our energy on implementing new applications and enhancing our business processes such as online credit card authorization, and integrating our document system and EFB infrastructure into a seamless automated business process.”

Jim L. Martin, Managing Director of ARINC’s Asia Pacific Division, said, “We are extremely pleased with the results of the trial, and thankful for the support and close partnership we have with Cathay Pacific in developing and installing AeroConnx. We look forward to continuing work with Cathay Pacific to determine our next steps in achieving even more benefits from the service.”

AeroConnx offers airlines a seamless integration of EFB applications, hardware, communications media, content, and configuration. It also provides high-bandwidth communications and automated data delivery. This allows carriers using EFBs to focus on the applications they need to enhance business and operational processes.

Key components of the AeroConnx platform include the EFB application suite managed by ARINC’s Program Manager, the ARINC EFB Content Delivery Management System (CDMS), ARINC’s AeroSyncTM communications and aircraft data solution, and ARINC GateFusion, the first common-use wireless gatelink service for airlines worldwide.
