Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Engineering Services, LLC today announced it has won the Data Link Services Provider (DSP) contract of the United States Department of Defense for 2010. The award means ARINC will continue as the primary provider of commercial aviation communications services for the United States Air Force and other government agencies, a position the company has maintained since 2001 against stiff competition.

The contract carries a total value of $20 million for 5 years (1 base year plus 4 option years). It was awarded June 1 by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).

Under the contract, ARINC will continue providing the Air Force and other U.S. government agencies with global commercial data link communications services, satellite voice services, VHF and HF Radio Voice services, and related value-added services. ARINC will also provide ongoing technical and engineering support as the Air Force continues to upgrade its fleet of VIP, special use, cargo, and tanker aircraft with commercial voice and data link communications systems.

“ARINC is gratified to accept this vital contract for a third time, and we are well aware of the responsibility it represents,” stated Pat de Barros, Director, Systems Engineering & Support Services. “As the leading commercial data link provider to the Department of Defense, we believe ARINC is the correct choice to deliver lowest cost, best service, best value, and lowest risk for the U.S. Air Force Air Mobility Command.”

The new DSP contract also includes high-speed satellite broadband communications services for the first time. This connectivity will be provided by ARINC, enabling passengers to use data-hungry applications and access ground networks during flight.

ARINC maintains a unique qualification to handle the military’s data link traffic. The company has developed and implemented a Military Data Link Center that provides special dynamic configuration, message routing, and aircraft identification capabilities. These functions address specific needs of the DoD, and enable ARINC to meet requirements of the DSP contract without subcontracts or the need to develop new capabilities.

“With this contract vehicle, ARINC is also leading the way to enable secure/protected data link and voice communications of the future, to better support the warfighter mission and flight safety,” added de Barros.

ARINC Incorporated, a portfolio company of The Carlyle Group, provides communications, engineering and integration solutions for commercial, defense and government customers worldwide.
