Annapolis, Maryland—ARINC Incorporated today announced its Next Generation Wireless Communications (NGWC) global satellite tracking system, developed in cooperation with partner Impeva Labs, Inc., received Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation (HERO) certification on March 10, 2009.

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren, VA, performed HERO testing on the Impeva NG-4B Global Sentinel® device used in NGWC container tracking. HERO certification permits the use of NGWC devices on U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) container shipments of ammunition and explosives, as well as non-explosive shipments. In its test results, the Navy indicated the Global Sentinel® device does not require “safe separation” distances when mounted on standard ISO shipping containers of ordnance.

ARINC and Impeva are currently demonstrating their NGWC tracking, monitoring and security solution on multiple DoD shipments under a 5-year, $20 million Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) contract from the U.S. Army Logistics Innovation Agency (LIA). The contract focuses on new solutions for Automatic Identification Technology (AIT). The companies offer the same technology for commercial applications as the Asset AssureSM global tracking solution.

“The NGWC system is the first continuous satellite tracking solution that is both HERO certified and approved to operate completely within the DoD environment,” stated Jim Potter, ARINC NGWC/Asset Assure Program Director.

“Completing this HERO certification validates our position that the ARINC/Impeva tracking solution is the most comprehensive, robust, and mature security system available for global tracking of DoD shipments,” said Tony Moroyan, Chairman and CEO of Impeva Labs. “Our recent successful tracking demonstrations add further proof.”

The NGWC NG-4B Global Sentinel® device can use existing DoD ground infrastructure such as RFID data networks for communication, or it can report back globally via satellite without any need for ground infrastructure. The NG-4B satellite link works equally well from any location on Earth and has been shown to be more cost-effective, scalable, accurate, and reliable than active-RFID solutions that must be locally deployed.
