Electric motor high capacity scissor lifts are becoming more popular and manufacturers like Genie are including electric models in new ranges in order to offer greater versatility and durability for operators indoor and out.

Last November, Genie included three new electric scissor models in its 69 rough terrain range: the GS 2669 DC, the GS-3369 DC and the GS-4069 DC. The GS-4069 is the first of its kind to allow driving at its full height of 40ft. The 69 series replaced the previous 68 series and includes a 72 inch width to allow for easy movement through double doors since these scissor lifts are often used inside and out construction sites. These rough-terrain machines are capable of operating in a range of environments and offer a high capacity deck with generous space for workers, tools and materials. The DC version of the 69 series is battery powered, making them a convenient and efficient choice for indoor work  due to low noise and emissions.

Operators welcomed the DC scissor lifts because they offer RT performance without the need to run a traditional engine. The direct drive AC motor used in these Genie scissors also provides increased efficiency over a DC motor, supplying more power to the ground and using less battery. The AC is sealed which means it does not run the risk of damage from mud, water or sand while in use on site – there’s also no need for maintenance because the motor does not contain brushes.

One of the most obvious benefits to Genie’s new electric scissor developments is the ability to drive at full height – an aspect that is becoming more and more desirable for efficient and effective use of AWPs, but one that is usually a safety hazard for most machines. The Genie’s GS-4069 DC allows a full drive height of 40ft. This can save time when working at height with the need for small regular movements, for example when installing pipework or vents along a single stretch. Rather than stopping, lowering the platform, moving forward a few feet and raising it again, workers can use the GS-4069 to move forward with the platform at full height, maximising productivity.
