We’ve been making our mark on privately financed infrastructure with Ecuador’s New Quito International Airport where our aviation specialists advised the lenders to the US$700 million project and programme managed delivery of the airport.

The new Mariscal Sucre International airport in Quito, Ecuador, officially opened following an inauguration by President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa.

The project was technically challenging and its topography – surrounded by active volcanoes – prevented both airports operating at the same time, meaning a phased opening of the new facility was not possible.

The last flight from the old airport departed at 19.07 on 19 February 2013. Project stakeholders concluded a highly complex overnight transfer of operations to the new airport, 15km to the east of the city in just 14 hours.

The new airport opened its doors and received its first aircraft at 09:07 local time on 20 February.
