DISA Corporación Petrolífera S.A. (DISA) and Shell Aviation have announced the creation of Shell & DISA Aviation España SL, a 50-50 marketing joint venture which will sell Shell-branded aviation fuel in Spain. Completion of the agreement signed last year follows the granting of the necessary regulatory approvals in Spain.
Shell & DISA Aviation España SL will incorporate the aviation activities currently operated by Shell Aviation España SLU, while remaining associated with the international business framework established by Shell Aviation. Today’s announcement sees Shell combine its global experience with that of a local partner, a successful model that Shell Aviation has already implemented in a number of countries globally.
Raimundo Baroja, DISA’s CEO, stated: “We are proud to have completed this deal with a global leader such as Shell. It will allow us to return to the aviation sector with the strong belief that it will mean a win-win alliance for both parties and our customers”.
Xinsheng (Sheng) Zhang, Vice President, Shell Aviation, said: “This marketing joint venture in Spain reinforces our aviation network in Europe and our competitive position as a global provider of aviation fuels. We are delighted to have DISA as a partner in Spain to combine its local knowledge with Shell’s world-class expertise to provide high-quality products and services to our aviation customers.”
Shell is a global leader in the sale of aviation fuels and lubricants and has been present in the Spanish market since 1920. DISA, created in 1933, has focused its activities up to this point on logistics, storage, maritime and ground transport and the sale of petroleum products (LPG and fuels). This new marketing joint venture follows an agreement in 2004, which saw DISA acquire Shell's service station network in Spain.
