Activity across Asia over recent months has provided a useful snapshot of how airside operations continue to evolve in practice.
At Ground Handling International Conference Asia, CEO David O’Connell joined industry leaders as part of a ramp safety panel, contributing to wider discussions around operational risk and communication on the apron. Drawing on both recent site activity and wider customer engagement, a clear theme emerged: while awareness of ramp safety continues to improve, the adoption of wireless communication between ground teams and cockpit is still not consistent.
Navigating a complex travel landscape, David continued engagement across the region, reconnecting with customers in both Thailand and the Philippines. Across both locations, there was a noticeable shift away from wired headsets, with more teams now working on duplex wireless systems.
Where wired systems remain, the limitations are increasingly apparent in day-to-day operation. Where wireless has been adopted, the impact is immediate — not as a step change, but as a practical improvement in how teams communicate under pressure.
