Kilfrost, the global leader in de/anti-icing products has had its Type I (DF+) and Type II (ABC-3) de/anti-icing fluids approved for use by China Eastern Airlines, the country’s second largest air carrier.

Kilfrost’s Chief Executive, Gary Lydiate announced the news at the start of Inter Airport China in Beijing on 26 September 2012. It means Kilfrost’s products have passed all China Eastern’s internal safety and supply requirements, as well as all international requirements, and can now provide fluids to the airline, which is based in Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.

Additionally, the approval for Kilfrost ABC-3, an anti-icing product with an increased hold-over time for use in harsher winter conditions, became China Eastern Airlines’s only certified Type II fluid.

Mr Lydiate said: “We’re extremely pleased to have met China Eastern Airlines’s certification requirements and we look forward to supplying them with our products.

“Kilfrost has been supplying Chinese airlines with our trusted products for a number of years now, but this development is a big step forward for our company.”

Kilfrost first distributed de/anti-icing products in 2008. However in 2010, the UK company established an office in Beijing to better serve the growing Chinese aviation industry.

Mr Lydiate added: “Kilfrost is a growing brand in China and we are now working with an ever increasing number of Chinese airlines and third party providers in the aviation industry.”

As well as the certification from China Eastern Airlines, Kilfrost’s China office also recently took its first order of fluids (TKS 406B) for use in TKS, or ‘weeping wing’ systems. TKS systems are usually fitted to business jets which, because they fly at lower altitudes, are more likely to experience icing conditions. Aviation experts predict ownership of Chinese-registered business jets will increase ten-fold from its current low level of 130 in the next decade.

“The demand for business jets in China’s fast-growing economy means we expect a corresponding rise in demand for TKS in-flight protection fluids. This early order means we can apply our expertise to this new market,” added Mr Lydiate.

Kilfrost is exhibiting at Inter Airport China at stand 620, Hall 8A, China International Exhibition Centre, 26-28 September 2012.
