Aviation/Cargo Security Seals

Company Acme Seals Limited
Date 16.02.2012

Clause 6 of IS 17712:2010 mandates that Tamper Testing is to be performed by suitably qualified Test Houses on all seals for which compliance status is sought by the manufacturer. It is also meant to expand the scope of the standard by encompassing 'S' (Security) and 'I' (Indicative) seals in addition to the established 'H' (High Security) category.

Annex B (Normative) stipulates a transition period of 6 months from publication of IS 17712 within which the requirements of Clause 6 must be met in full. This means the cut off date is 1st March 2012, just over two weeks forward from the date of this posting.

All interested parties are asked to note that not a single security seal manufacturer or supplier in the world is in a position to meet in full the requirements of Clause 6 or Annex B (Normative) because there is not even one Test House that will attempt to perform the wholly subjective Tamper Tests as suggested within Clause 6.

Within the ISO framework Clause 6 of IS 17712 is under urgent review to bring in workable changes to it; for this reason Customers and New Prospects of Acme Seals may rest assured that the Acme Bolt seal will remain fully 'H' compliant even after the deadline of 1st March is reached.
