Company Vanderlande
Date 26.11.2010

On 10th November 2010 Vanderlande Industries and China’s Shenzhen Airport Authority signed the contract for a comprehensive baggage handling system for the new Terminal 3.

“Vanderlande was awarded the contract because they had the best solution to cope with the exponential growth we are experiencing”, said Mr .Yang Haibin, Chief Commander of Expansion Construction Headquarters of Shenzhen Airport Authority. “They designed a smart system that is efficient and high quality and will enable us to offer the best service to our customers.”

The new 400,000 square meter terminal will be able to handle 40 million passengers a year. The expansion will make Shenzhen airport the fourth-largest in China. But the expansion will not stop with the construction of Terminal 3. “In fact, interfaces for a high speed DCV system will already be incorporated in the design to allow the connection to the future mid-field terminal, which will increase the capacity with another 15 million passengers” commented Mr Ben Xia, General Manager of Vanderlande Industries Logistics Automated Systems, Vanderlande’s Chinese branch office in Shanghai.

The contract includes 11 check-in islands with 214 desks (including high class and VIP), 4 HELIXORTER tilt tray sorters each 347 meters long, 2 transfer inputs, 62 laterals and 4 TRIPLANAR carousels for flight make-up, 20 TRIPLANAR baggage reclaim carousels, an Early Bag Storage of 52 lanes with a capacity of 1,500 bags and an Empty Tub Return System. The T3 baggage handling system will be finished by the end of September 2012. Vanderlande Industries was also the supplier of the baggage handling system for Terminal B in 2003.
