ATLANTA – Vanderlande Industries completed successfully the baggage handling system with inline screening system terminal D at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, part of the fourth-largest airport system in the United States and the sixth-largest in the world. “We have focused on ‘Delivering Certainty’ to this customer,” commented Mr. de Groot, VP Operations of Vanderlande Industries USA. “We are proud to be serving them for several projects in the last 5 years. In 2010 Travel + Leisure recognized Houston for having America’s Best Airports. That is an outstanding achievement and I am convinced that Vanderlande baggage handling systems contributed and will contribute to the success of this airport now and in the future.”

State of the art baggage handling system
With more than 50 years experience in material handling systems, Vanderlande Industries is one of the world’s leading turnkey integrators of baggage handling systems. Vanderlande Industries has implemented more than 50 system solutions in the USA and continues to grow every year. This project at George Bush Intercontinental Airport included more than 3350 feet of material handling conveyors, a six machine Explosive Detection System (EDS) screening system, and new ticket counter conveyors. Next to the baggage handling system Vanderlande Industries also provided the passenger screening area. With this new material handling system Terminal D is prepared to serve the increasing number of foreign carriers that fly to Houston.

First VIBES deployment in North America
Additionally, this project marked the first North American deployment of VIBES, the Vanderlande Industries baggage handling system software. This is software made by Vanderlande Industries to route the bags in the most optimal way to their destination. Vanderlande successfully used VIBES in larger baggage handling systems for example Schiphol in The Netherlands and Heathrow T5 in Great Britain. It has a proven track record and makes control of the baggage handling process much more effective. Vanderlande is very proud that Houston Airport took advantage of this opportunity.
