Baggage Handling Systems at Airports

Vancouver – Vanderlande Industries has been awarded the contract for a new baggage handling system for the Expansion 2012 terminal addition at Edmonton International Airport in Alberta, Canada. The system will include GREENVEYORs, the conveyor that uses 40% less energy.

Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is executing a major airport development program, Expansion 2012. The terminal building is being expanded to the south and will allow up to 13 more aircraft gates. Upgrades are also planned to the existing terminal. Vanderlande Industries Canada Inc. has been awarded the contract for the baggage handling system for the program.

The first part of the contract consists of installing a baggage system in the new section of the terminal. The second part is consolidation of the existing hold baggage screening (HBS) systems into one screening loop, to be implemented with a BAXORTER loop sorter. This means that the BAXORTER has entered the North American market for the first time.

The GREENVEYOR is Vanderlande’s new energy efficient baggage conveyor which uses less energy than the existing baggage conveyors (savings possible up to 40%). The Airport Authority has embraced sustainability as a core value and fully appreciates the GREENVEYOR’s many operational and environmental benefits.

Installation of the baggage handling system in the new terminal expansion will start in the fall of 2010. The HBS loop will be installed starting in 2012.
