Date 17.02.2014

Veghel – Recently Bergamo Airport (BGY) awarded the order for both equipment and services for the upgrade of the Arrivals area to Vanderlande Industries. The extended baggage handling system will enable the airport to handle the expected growth of the number of passengers for the EXPO 2015 and beyond.

In preparation for the EXPO 2015 that will take place in Milan and to accommodate the yearly passenger growth, Bergamo Airport decided to rebuild and enlarge the Arrivals area. Vanderlande participated in the tender procedure and won the project from several competing bidders because it had the best solution and quality equipment combined with a competitive offer and excellent services capabilities.

Mr. Bellingardi, COO at Bergamo Airport says: "SACBO is pleased to welcome Vanderlande among its suppliers. Vanderlande, as world leader in BHS becomes part of the important infrastructural works at BGY’s arrival area. The long, well-established experience and the high level of knowledge of Vanderlande will certainly contribute to support in the best way to the operational needs by ensuring, through the perfect functioning of the carousels, the timely delivery of the bags and the full efficiency of the services dedicated to the passengers."

At this moment Bergamo Airport is making use of four arrivals carousels. During the project these will be substituted by new Vanderlande TRIPLANAR carousels and three extra carousels will be added.

Additionally a two year service contract has been sold that includes new products like EYE4U and MMS (Mobile Maintenance SCADA solution) as well as more traditional products like spare parts, 24/7 hotline, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and training.

EYE4U was introduced at the inter airport Europe in October 2013, and has already been delivered to companies in the Warehouse Automation sector. Bergamo Airport is the first airport where this remote monitoring tool will be implemented.

Bergamo Airport is the second largest Ryanair hub and moved 9 million passengers last year. In 2014 it is to be expected that Bergamo Airport will become the number 3 ranking airport in Italy after Roma Fiumicino and Milano Malpensa.
