Date 03.11.2010

Vanderlande Industries UK, the British subsidiary of the Dutch materials handling company, last week showcased its latest technologies at the AOA Annual Conference and Exhibition. On display were the BAXORTER and BAXPACE concepts, the newest innovations aimed at small and medium-sized airports that could help to realise significant savings in airport operational costs. The company also scooped the award for Best Innovator at the Annual Awards ceremony at the conference dinner

Targeting regional airports, Vanderlande Industries has developed unique, advanced technologies which offer high flexibility, outstanding levels of reliability and sort quality, extensive improvements in process control and operational cost reductions. The BAXORTER has a capacity of 3,000 bags per hour. It not only improves control of the baggage handling process but also eliminates mis-sorts while BAXPACE automates the baggage handling process, replacing all existing conveyors with one bag sorter and energy-efficient GREENVEYORs. All baggage handling tasks are integrated allowing for full tracking from drop-off to flight reconciliation.

These technologies help small to medium-sized airports realise significant savings on energy consumption. The BAXORTER consumes 15 percent less energy compared to existing systems while BAXPACE allows for savings of up to 40 percent. Not only this, the cost savings on purchasing the equipment, installation and maintenance are significant. This technology is highly advanced and unique altering the way regional airports function and allowing them to become more competitive.

David Rothwell, Head of Sales of Vanderlande UK commented: “We have specifically developed the BAXPACE and BAXORTER technologies with smaller airport facilities in mind. A high level of flexibility is offered, while accommodating for future growth plans. At Vanderlande Industries, we strive to maintain high standards of quality and reliability in everything we do; this has been incorporated in both BAXPACE and BAXORTER but at an affordable cost. We enjoyed showcasing our latest products at the AOA exhibition and demonstrating the advantages they could provide to smaller airport operators.”

The BAXORTER and BAXPACE have recently been installed in a small number of regional airports internationally. Both incorporate Vanderlande’s GREENVEYOR technology which is currently in operation in London Heathrow’s Terminal 5.
