Date 06.04.2009

CASIO Europe's aim when launching the versatile DT-X30 data terminal was to meet the increasingly high demands of professional users in the trade, industry and service sectors. Greater compatibility, simpler configuration, increased mobility and better e-mail and Internet functionality are particularly useful for integration into modern IT structures.

Since the middle of 2008, the robust CASIO DT-X30 hand-held terminal has proven itself time and again in challenging MDE solutions for a variety of industries. Huge quantities of the versatile terminal are used in the courier, express and delivery industries as well as by service providers who need to transfer recorded data and images to head office in real time from the field. CASIO Europe now offers mobile users even greater flexibility with the new Microsoft® operating system Windows Mobile 6.1. When different programs are being used at the same time, operation is significantly more stable thanks to the new Task Manager; the programs work almost concurrently behind an application. This makes it possible for the GPS module to determine the location while the integrated digital camera is taking sharp two-megapixel images at lightning speed and the e-mail program is receiving new information for the user. The improved Windows Mobile 6.1 web browser also makes the DT-X30 perfect for solutions where MDE devices are directly connected to SAP systems via WLAN or EDGE/GSM/GPRS. Connecting to WLAN and mobile communication networks is now much simpler and the security concept has been significantly improved by the addition of various new features.
The new user interface and the simple operation of the device are the key elements of the Windows Mobile 6.1 product range. The DT-X30 now supports e-mail access with Outlook Mobile or other Windows Mobile-compatible e-mail programs. Internet Explorer Mobile boasts a zoom function and even supports Adobe Flash. One of the best things is that the configuration of e-mail accounts has, for example, been made much easier. The whole series of Windows Mobile devices can easily be integrated into the company network and protected by the administrator via Active Directory and group guidelines.
Along with the broad range of existing software, the DT-X30 is also compatible with standard Windows Mobile software, which can be downloaded from the Internet, for example. More than 18,000 programs are available.

"Thanks to its high performance, flexibility and IP64 protection class, the DT-X30 is best suited to use in field service and in harsh storage and industrial environments", explains Thomas Uppenkamp, manager of Mobile Industrial Solutions at CASIO Europe GmbH in Norderstedt. "There are currently twelve different versions of the device available; each is fitted with different combinations and versions of digital cameras, CMOS imagers or laser scanners, and GPS and communication standards".

The DT-X30 can survive being dropped onto concrete from 1.5 metres several times. The operating temperature range is -20°C to +50°C, covering all of the normal conditions for most areas of application. The device operates with a PXA320 processor with a clock speed of 624 MHz, 128 MB RAM, 128 F-ROM storage. Its colour display uses transflective technology and offers outstanding reading quality even in sunlight. With 240 x 320 pixels, it is ideal for use on Windows Mobile 6.1 and even enables data entry via the scratch-resistant touch screen. Now it's even easier to record data with the integrated CMOS imager or laser scanner. Two-dimensional codes with high data volumes, such as DataMatrix, Aztec and PDF417, can also be imported directly, just like all current barcodes. These specifications ensure users feel secure come rain, shine or extreme cold.
