Date 08.03.2010

COMSOFT contributes sound AIXM 5 expertise and central AIM components to the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Web Services, Phase 7 (OWS-7) testbed.

Karlsruhe/Germany, March 2010 – The OWS-7 testbed is part of OGC's Interoperability Program to develop, test and deliver proven candidate specifications into OGC's Specification Program. COMSOFT was selected to contribute to the Aviation Thread which seeks to further develop and demonstrate the use of the Aeronautical Information Exchange Model version 5.1 (AIXM 5.1) and the Weather Information Exchange Model (WXXM) in an OGC Web Services Environment.

The OWS-7 testbed will be set up to simulate and evaluate realistic flight test scenarios. These will cover national flights as well as a transatlantic flight departing from the United States and heading towards Europe, where Tallinn of Estonia will be its final destination.

Companies were invited to contribute leading edge technology and know-how to this undertaking, whereupon COMSOFT was selected to provide their central Aeronautical database CADAS-AIMDB. Native support of the complete AIXM 5.1 data model including temporality (Digital NOTAM) and operational critical meta-data is one of the outstanding characteristics that make CADAS AIMDB a first choice for any Aeronautical Information Management system solution.

In the OWS-7 testbed, applications from various manufacturers will access the database through an open interface that conforms to the WFS-T Version 2 standard. This ISO standard will pave the way for a highly modular AIS/AIM infrastructure allowing any client to connect to CADAS-AIMDB via this standard system interface and retrieve or store AIXM 5 data in a controlled way. Additionally, a web service notification interface will enable CADAS-AIMDB to actively synchronise remote systems, thus keeping them up-to-date.

Another major highlight is the contribution of AIXM 4.5/5.1 mapping services using COMSOFT's automated AIXM mapping tool. This tool, being the only comprehensive AIXM mapping application worldwide, recently evidenced its high capabilities in converting the AIP of Estonia into AIXM 5.1 format. Estonian Air Navigation Service Provider EANS is the very first ANSP having its AIP completely available in AIXM 5.1 format and stored in CADAS-AIMDB. EANS kindly contributed this AIP data to the OWS-7 project.

All OWS-7 participators now benefit from a rich set of real world AIXM 5.1 data, which will considerably increase the significance of the OWS-7 testbed results.
