Karlsruhe/Germany, July 2010 – The multiphase radar data network project of the German Air Force will be complemented by adding a second, classified data network to the existing infrastructure. Both networks are based on four powerful nodes of the kind RMCDE – COMSOFT’s landmark front-end processor. In particular, the network is used for the exchange and distribution of classified surveillance data and flight plan information essential for air traffic control operations of the German Air Force.

For data security reasons, gateways will be implemented controlling the data flow between the new red and the existing black network. Their main purpose is to separate and filter confidential information and keep it within the classified environment. In the interest of its users these gateways will be certified by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) promoting IT security in Germany.

Another vital step towards the entire project’s duly conclusion is the implementation of a control and monitoring system that was particularly customised for military demands. Based on COMSOFT’s well proven solution CMS/XA it will manpower-efficiently monitor eight connected radar stations.

The project MilRADNET started in 2005 and its first phase was completed just one years later including the installation and commissioning of RMCDEs at four sites, which now represent the black network. The second phase ended in 2008 with the implementation of a mobile network node. The ongoing and final stage is scheduled for completion by 2013.
