On 18 February 2014, Naviair settled first tranche investment to Aireon LLC. Until 2017, Naviair invests a total of DKK 160 million in Aireon for an equity interest of 6 per cent of the company.
Aireon develops and launches the world’s first space-based global air traffic surveillance system for the aviation industry. 
The system is expected to be fully functional in 2020 and will then provide 100 per cent global surveillance of air traffic. Today, surveillance of air traffic covers only some 10 per cent of the earth.
