Avinor approves development of Oslo Airport, Gardermoen

Company Avinor
Date 24.01.2011
In a meeting January 19 the Group board of Avinor has approved the development project for increased terminal capacity at Oslo Airport Gardermoen (OSL) based on the license awarded by the Ministry of Transport and Communications on 22 December 2010.
Since starting operations in October 1998 OSL has experienced strong growth in traffic, and has after 12 years of operation a traffic volume of approx. 19 million passengers. OSL has thus exceeded the traffic volume it originally was scaled for and therefore needs to expand and develop to ensure an efficient and socio-economically sound transport system for domestic and international travel in Norway.

The project that has been given the go-ahead constitutes an increase in capacity to 28 million annual passengers. A second phase of the project is also planned which constitutes a further expansion up to 35 million annual passengers. A figure of 35 million annual passengers is considered to be the maximum traffic volume the current two runways can handle.

Start-up of the second phase is dependent on approval by the Government. According to current traffic forecasts, it is expected that the second phase will start around 2023.

The new expanded terminal will be ready for operation in the summer of 2017.

The total framework for the completed project in 2017 is approx. NOK 12.5 billion.
