Over 20 million passengers means a new record

During the first half of 2011, the number of passengers who travelled to and from Avinor’s airports increased by 13.7 per cent compared with the first half of last year. So far this year, growth in domestic traffic has been 14.1 per cent and international 13.4 per cent. At the same time, the number of aircraft movements rose by 5.9 per cent.

“Even though some of the growth must be ascribed to traffic interruptions caused by the Eyafjallajökull volcano in April and May 2010, these are good figures and they illustrate how important it is that Avinor will invest almost 30 billion kroner in new infrastructure between now and 2021. It is especially important to focus on measures to increase capacity, such as the new approach system at Oslo Airport Gardermoen. This system has given the airlines the capacity they need to expand their operations at our main airport,” says CEO Dag Falk-Petersen.

In total, 4,198,757 passengers travelled to or from one of Avinor’s airports during June this year. That is also a new record. Growth in domestic traffic was 8.5 per cent and in international traffic 8.3 per cent compared with the same month last year.

Among Avinor’s largest airports, Oslo Airport Gardermoen had a growth of 7.9 per cent, Bergen Airport Flesland 10.2 per cent, Trondheim Airport Værnes 9 per cent and Stavanger Airport Sola 8.9 per cent compared with the same month last year.

The regional and local airports had a growth of 8.3 per cent in June.
