DFS receives ATC Global Award 2010

Amsterdam, 11.3.2010.- DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH received the ATC Global Award 2010 for the automatic Arrival Manager (AMAN) in the category Service Provision Award. The awards are given in recognition of excellence within the Air Traffic Management Industry by Jane’s Airport Review.

DFS is using the Arrival Manager, an in-house development, for the better planning and sequencing of arrivals to Frankfurt and Munich. The tool for Munich has now been extended to a range of 100 NM crossing the borders into another ANSP and even Functional Airspace Block. In cooperation with Austro Control, DFS established the first ever system supported (AMA Message) cross-border coordination between two European air navigation service providers by using AMAN. In recognition of this achievement, DFS has won the Service Provision Award for contributing to safe and efficient airspace management at the ATC Global 2010.

The main goal of this collaborative project was to reduce verbal coordination between Munich control centre and Vienna ACC and to optimise the flow of air traffic into Munich airport. AMAN enhances safety as well as capacity and reduces costs and the environmental impact. “This successful cooperation between DFS and Austro Control represents another vital step towards achieving harmonised European air traffic management as envisaged under the Single European Sky,” says Frank Brenner, Director Business Unit Control Centre at DFS.

AMAN is distributed by the DFS Business Unit Aeronautical Solutions as the 4D Planner. It will also be implemented at Berlin-Brandenburg International (BBI) Airport, and from 2011, the Brazilian air navigation services organisation will also use the German-made Arrival Manager at various locations.
