Date 11.01.2012

This course is available to anyone involved in the airspace or navigation domains and to anyone interested in learning more about the latest aircraft navigation techniques.

Objective of the course

Participants will understand the meaning and principles associated with area navigation (RNAV) and the ICAO performance based navigation (PBN) concept which replaces the Required Navigation Performance (RNP) concept.

They will also have an opportunity to learn more about the recent developments on PBN which are expected to take place in the coming years.

Recent developments

EUROCONTROL was tasked by the Single Sky Committee to draft an Implementing Rule on PBN which promotes the Advanced Required Navigation Performance (A-RNP) for en-route flights.

EUROCONTROL is also planning to address the ICAO General Assembly resolution (37/11) on the requirement for Approach Procedures with Vertical Guidance (APV) for all instrument runways by 2016.

Background info

This course results from a EUROCONTROL-FAA initiative and is targeted to the European region. It provides an updated version from the ICAO’s regional training seminars which were held between 2007 and 2011.

The course focuses on the needs of the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) Member States and supports the implementation of a performance based navigation.
