Fast & Easy Self Bag Drop Solutions

Passengers at Vienna Airport now have the opportunity to use Scan&Fly, the Self Bag Drop solution of Type22. Vienna Airport has selected Scan&Fly to offer passengers of Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, TAP, and other airlines the extra service of Self Bag Drop to reduce long waiting times. 

Scan&Fly offers a fast and easy self bag drop process. The smart and retrofit design of Scan&Fly enables overnight installation so passengers don’t experience any discomfort or operational disturbances in the terminal.

Vienna Airport chose for a one-stop Self Bag Drop process: after a passenger scans the boarding pass, a bag tag is printed. The bag tag can now be attached to their bag. Once the passenger confirms that the bag tag is attached, it will be taken into the baggage handling system.

“With this step we are following the international trend. Many passengers want modern and quick check-in services which are convenient and save time. In particular, frequent flyers and business travelers appreciate the possibility to start their journey without long waiting times”, explains Karsten Benz, Chief Commercial Officer of Austrian Airlines. “We are starting off with a test phase due to the fact that customer proximity is very important to us. We will gain experience and learn how our passengers react to this service“.

Julian Jäger, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG, adds: “New services such as booking flights and checking in using the Internet as well as the mobile boarding pass on mobile phones have become indispensable in air travel. By testing the self-service baggage drop-off, we are offering passengers another way of completing the necessary travel formalities in a time-saving manner and also taking a new innovative step forward at Vienna Airport.
