Fixed-Base Operation (FBO) & Distribution Network for Business Aviation Services

Company Signature Flight Support Corporation
Date 09.10.2012

It’s a bright and sunny day in Sugar Land, TX, near Houston, TX and George Davis is departing Sugar Land Airport (KSGR) on his check ride to finish his private pilot’s license. George is the beneficiary of a new program offered by Signature Flight Support that sponsors its managers to assist with earning their wings.

Mr. Davis is the general manager of Signature Flight Support’s Fixed Base Operation (FBO) at Houston-Hobby and has always dreamed of flying. “Since my days of growing up on the farm watching the aircraft on final to Huntsville Airport (KHSV) and after serving twenty years in the US Air Force as an Aircraft Mechanic, my mind was in the clouds,” said Davis, “When Signature offered this new benefit, I couldn’t get to my flight school fast enough.” He flies almost daily and is now pursuing his instrument and commercial rating concurrently.

Other employees within Signature’s global network of over 100 locations are also taking part. Even Signature’s president, S. Michael Scheeringa, has earned his flight privileges. “I grew up around aviation, my dad was a pilot and I flew with him when I was a boy. It drove me to pursue a degree in Transportation at Arizona State University,” stated Scheeringa. “When I came to Signature just over three years ago, Signature’s reputation within the Avgas community was less than perfect. We needed our staff to understand the needs and wants of our most important customer segment – pilots. What better way to learn that point of view than from the cockpit of an aircraft arriving at an FBO. So we designed a program to make it happen.”

In addition to flight training benefits for its employees, Signature has been active in providing Avgas users with compelling fuel pricing and pilot rewards. It started its pilot rewards program, Signature TailWinsTM, with the idea that everyone that flies an aircraft, regardless of fuel type, benefits. Pilots earn valuable rewards through points earned by purchasing fuel and handling. Signature TailWinsTM is the first program that rewards pilots on both fuel and handling around the world. Signature also offers self-serve Avgas at many locations providing lower fuel costs.

Signature has also been an advocate for the Avgas community defending general aviation users’ rights through participation in the GA Avgas Coalition which works with other FBO operators and industry groups such as the National Business Aviation Association (www.nbaa.org) and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (www.aopa.org). The Coalition is active in the search for Avgas alternatives, specifically, responsibly developed unleaded aviation fuels. The Coalition is diligently working to resolve actions based on California’s Proposition 65 whose implications could substantially limit general aviation activities in that state. Signature is also working with and sponsoring the Recreational Aviation Foundation whose mission is to preserve and maintain rural airstrips. Many of these locations are in the most scenic wilderness areas and some may be threatened with closure or falling into disrepair.

Scheeringa added, “Whether you are flying a single engine, experimental, or a jet, we welcome all pilots to Signature. With amenities and world-class service and safety, Signature offers a superior FBO experience and we encourage all aviators to give us a try.”

Signature is welcoming arriving aircraft for the AOPA Aviation Summit at both its Palm Springs International Airport (KPSP) and Thermal’s Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport (KTRM). Arriving pilots will be treated a hospitality tent, refreshments, giveaways as well as have the opportunity to win 10,000 Signature TailWinsTM points when they enroll in the program. AOPA Aviation Summit attendees can also learn about Signature’s many programs for Avgas pilots at the convention center at booth 1516.
