The systems won the Storage & Handling of Materials category in the national Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence Awards 2008. The judges presented the prestigious award to AaE for combining ‘world-leading auto sortation technologies together with innovative integrated information systems and properly aligned human interfaces’. Also at national level, AaE received the Australian Freight & Logistics Award from the Australian Freight Industry (AFI) and high commendations at the Australian Government’s National Comcare Safety Awards for their innovative Mobile Freight Sortation Cage.

In addition to the national awards AaE also won the Achievement of the Year 2008 and Individual Achiever of the Year categories in the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia (CILTA) awards.

Wayne Dunne, CEO of AaE commented: "These are the first automated systems for AaE and were installed to enable us to significantly increase our operating efficiency as well as work satisfaction for our staff. To have these systems recognised by our industry peers as outstanding examples of innovation in material-handling efficiency is a major achievement.”

Both installations are based on FKI Logistex’ high-capacity, cross-belt, loop sortation system and integrate a range of in-feed stations to allow simultaneously handling of a wide range of items such as cartons, bags, tubs and satchels. An advanced, high-level control system, based on FKI Logistex’ field-proven Software Suite™ modules, includes a Colour Graphics System (CGS) to give staff an overview of the entire system for easy diagnostics and a fast response to system alarms.

Henrik Cort Welander, FKI Logistex International Sales Manager concluded: “AaE’s vision for the future has made a considerable contribution in enabling FKI Logistex to realise workable installations which achieve benchmark performance using innovative, leading-edge sortation technology.”
