Flexible aluminium tent structures and Hangars for the Airport Industry

Company Losberger GmbH
Date 29.01.2010

There is always something happening at an airport – rising passenger numbers during major events such as European and world championships, renovation work on existing terminals, increased freight traffic, extensions to the runways, and much more.

Losberger creates space – additional space solutions, for example departure and arrival halls, warehouses, aircraft maintenance halls and hangar garages.

The new Terminal 2 at Portugal’s Portela airport shows how Losberger products are constructed in a modular and flexible way. In contrast to permanent buildings, the “Revolution” system with its 5x5m modules is quick to install, easy to extend to meet any requirements, and can be dismantled and repositioned at any time. In 2007, it was particularly important to put the Portela project into practice very quickly. Against a tight planning background, in only 8 weeks the Losberger team installed 7,725 square metres of covered space. Today, the “Revolution” construction of the frame, roof covers in a patented pointed roof design, and the cassette wall system, is used as a departure terminal which was completely planned and equipped by Siemens, the principal contractual partner. There are 12 departure gates, a business lounge and approx. 480 seats, used by over 5,000 passengers every day.

In addition to permanent solutions, Losberger also provides temporary space solutions. During the European championship held in Portugal in 2004, a covered area was added to the main airport building over a period of 3 months. Losberger erected 8,000 square metres of tent space which was used to cope with the arrival and departure of many football fans. This was something which the airport operator in Doha knew all about in advance of the Asian Games 2006. Here, too, 9,000 square metres of tent space were installed in order to cope with the increased number of passengers during the Asian Games and to guarantee problem-free handling of flights. In both these cases, the use of tents was an extremely cost-effective method, because there was no need to invest in permanent buildings – everything was dismantled after the events had taken place.
It is not only passengers who expect to have a roof over their heads; this also applies to aircraft during servicing procedures, many freight pallets, and all kinds of equipment found at the airport. All this can be carried out with the help of Losberger. Hangar facilities up to 72 m in width using steel constructions or lightweight design halls which can withstand the weight of snow have already been installed worldwide in order to create additional space.

But the Losberger name stands not only for product, Losberger is a Partner throughout the Process.
