India is putting the spotlight on airport safety after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Airports Authority of India and Ministry of Civil Aviation all released extra recommendations, following the Mangalore Air Crash of 2010, calling for airports to increase passenger safety. Among these recommendations was the need for frangible-mounted structures within airports, citing Calicut and Mangalore airport antenna-supporting structures as examples.

The importance of having frangible-mounted structures within airports is an issue that will never go away. Between 1996 and 2006 there were 32 fatal accidents worldwide resulting from runway excursions and overruns, resulting in 623 fatalities.

Pollite revolutionary designs and methods of manufacture ensure our masts are fully frangible to comply with airport safety regulations. The base raw materials used in the manufacture of the mast, glass, resin and gel coat are sourced from European manufacturers who are all ISO registered.

We are one of just three approach mast manufacturers globally that are certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and we invest heavily year upon year to keep this accreditation. It means that we are a trusted manufacturer of frangible masts and endorsed by them to sell our products globally.

India is just one country among many that has recently reviewed its ground handling safety regulations. We understand how important passenger safety is to airports, which is why we rigorously test our products to make sure they do break effectively on impact. As a result, our masts comply with ICAO Aerodrome Design Manual Part 6 Frangibility. This means they are fully tested on full scale impact frangibility, deflection and wind speed. Only when our masts pass these tests do we sell them to airports worldwide, taking a frangible approach to airport safety.

For further information about our frangible airports masts, or any of our other frangible products, please contact us. We are also happy to talk to relevant industry-related agencies and companies about our airport safety compliance.
