Fraport traffic figures in April 2023: passenger demand on a stable growth path

Frankfurt Airport with around 4.8 million passengers / increase of 21.5 percent compared to the previous year / several international airport holdings above pre-crisis levels

In April, Frankfurt Airport welcomed around 4.8 million passengers. That was 21.5 percent more than in the same month of 2022. The current monthly value was still 20.0 percent away from the traffic volume in April 2019 1 .

The volume of cargo continued to decline due to the general economic slowdown in the reporting month. At 154,926 tons, it was 8.5 percent below the same month of 2022. The number of flight movements rose by 9.8 percent to 35,503 take-offs and landings. The sum of the maximum take-off weights grew by 9.4 percent to around 2.2 million tons (in each case compared to April 2022).

Traffic in the international portfolio also continued to increase. Ljubljana Airport in Slovenia counted 95,105 passengers (up 36.8 percent) in the month under review. The volume at the Brazilian airports Fortaleza and Porto Alegre increased to 962,787 passengers (plus 7.1 percent). The airport in Lima, Peru recorded around 1.6 million passengers in April (up 13.2 percent). At the 14 Greek regional airports, passenger numbers rose to 1.6 million (plus 17.9 percent). The twin star airports Burgas and Varna in Bulgaria increased by 57.5 percent to 151,109 passengers. The number of passengers at Turkey’s Antalya Airport increased to 2.1 million passengers (plus 38.1 percent). In April, both Greek airports and Twin Star airports were above pre-crisis 2019 levels.
