Company Allison Transmission
Date 05.10.2011

In September 2010, Allison Transmission announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art transmission manufacturing facility in Szentgotthárd, Hungary.  After a dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting, the Allison Transmission Hungary Operation is officially on-line. Currently, Allison’s new manufacturing facility is producing 3000, 4000 and Torqmatic® Series fully automatic transmissions for the company’s international customers.

Szentgotthárd, Hungary – Nearly 200 customers, OEMs, Hungarian dignitaries and Allison workers celebrated the official opening of the Allison Transmission Hungary Manufacturing Facility in Szentgotthárd, Hungary.  It was September 2010, when Allison first revealed its plans to construct the new Szentgotthárd manufacturing plant; and its transmission products are already being delivered to bus and truck OEMs throughout Europe as well as emerging markets.  Allison Transmission is a premier provider of commercial and military-duty automatic transmissions and hybrid propulsion systems.

Allison also announced that within weeks, a new Customization Center located within the Szentgotthárd facility will open for business. By configuring transmissions to specific customer requirements prior to shipping, the company will shorten a vehicle’s drive-train assembly time, while increasing the OEM’s overall build efficiency.

David L. Parish, Allison Transmission Vice President of Operations, said, “For over 10 years we enjoyed sharing a manufacturing facility in Szentgotthárd with General Motors Opel Hungary.  We developed successful production collaborations during that course of business and professional relationships that will last a lifetime.  I want to thank GM Opel for their support and assistance in the construction of our new Allison wholly-owned manufacturing plant.”

The Allison 3000, 4000 and Torqmatic® Series fully automatic transmissions produced in Szentgotthárd are widely used in city buses, construction, distribution, pick-up and delivery, fire and emergency, terminal tractor, shuttle, utility, refuse, wheeled military and other applications.  In 2005, increasing global demand for Allison products resulted in the company expanding its Hungarian operations.
