How GDPR will affect data collection – 10 key points

In 2018 new EU regulations on data protection known as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into effect, the final draft of which was released in January this year. As a company at the cutting edge of data collection and analytics solutions for airports and car parks securely processing the data we gather is a primary concern for Rezcomm, and we’re always up-to-date and in compliance with the latest laws. GDPR represents the biggest change on the horizon but we’ve summarised the key points below.

Redefined personal data
Under the new regulations the definition of ‘personal data’ will change, it now means any information gathered about an individual even if it isn’t at all personal – i.e. even if they can’t be identified by it. However, it’s data that could be used to identify someone when combined with other data. This broad definition will include data such as IP addresses, cookie strings, and device identifiers.
