GHI Conference underlines the value of community connections

In recent years, despite the continued drive towards digital communication, live events have played an increasing role in aviation’s marketing mix.

As such, the COVID-driven cancellation of so many conferences and exhibitions over the past 18 months, although entirely necessary, has been both disappointing and damaging. Many opportunities to meet new people, make new connections and build new business were lost along the way.

For A-ICE, one of the key fixtures in the international events calendar is the Ground Handling International (GHI) Annual Conference. It brings together key partners in the ground handling space, providing a strong platform to showcase our modular software solutions for airlines and airport operators.

After such a tumultuous period, the return of the GHI Conference in Copenhagen on 13-15 September 2021 was like a beacon of optimism. We were delighted to support the event and would like to congratulate the show organisers on bringing everything together under what remain difficult circumstances.

Things are clearly not yet back to the way they were, with matters complicated by national travel restrictions and last-minute positive tests. Nevertheless, the event was a clear reminder of what we have missed. Over the course of the three days, we had good meetings with good contacts, and we are now looking forward to following up on those conversations.

More important, however, was the chance to join together in solidarity with the global aviation community, and to reconnect with some familiar faces. There will doubtless be bumps on the road ahead, but just coming together in this way marked another step towards recovery for a sector that has shown real resilience.

Virtual platforms may well have proven their worth during the pandemic, and pointed to a new-look, hybrid future for events, but as the GHI Conference came to a close, there was a strong feeling that it marked an important beginning.
