Project Title:
Proposed Extension of Fuel Hydrant System for New Aircraft Parking Stands
Client: Changi Airport Fuel Hydrant Installation Pte Ltd
Date:
2001 – 2009
Status:
Ongoing

We were appointed as Aviation Fuel consultant to the aviation fuel farm and hydrant system operator for the development of hydrant fuelling on 10 new aircraft stands on two cargo aprons.

Eight of the stands will be on new pavement and will comprise parking for many different types of aircraft on the various centrelines. Of these, six of the stands will be able to accommodate up to Code E (B747-400 size) aircraft. The remaining two stands will be able to accommodate up to Code F (A380 size) aircraft, but will also have offset centrelines to allow two Code C (B737/A320 size) aircraft to park simultaneously in MARS (Multi Aircraft Ramp System) configuration. Similar design requirements apply to two other stands on another, existing cargo apron.

MARS parking configurations bring additional complexity to hydrant design because many more variables have to be dealt with on one parking area. Nevertheless, ejet were well-placed and eminently qualified to do this work because of previous credentials with the design and construction of MARS parking at Delhi and Hong Kong, and John Pitts’ earlier design experience of reconfiguring stands at London Gatwick in the early/mid 1990’s for MARS parking when it was a relatively new concept.

The assignment has required an extensive refuelling study so far in order to optimise hydrant pit positions and the routing of the new hydrant lines. ejet have also advised on materials procurement and the form of construction contract, and will be having an op-going involvement in the project as it progresses through construction and commissioning. Works are due to be completed in early 2016.

Client testimonial

"Having been Chairman of the aviation fuel consortium at the new Hong Kong International Airport in the late 1990’s, I worked closely with John over the 3 year period that he was General Manager. He impressed the Board with his capabilities and drive, and I said at the time that we were lucky to have him working for us."

"When Chevron was appointed engineer to the aviation fuel consortium to ready Singapore Changi Airport for the new A380 Super Jumbo aircraft, it was natural that we should seek John’s assistance."

"John and the ejet team helped deliver this complicated project, involving design, engineering, planning and construction on many workfronts over a live aviation fuel system. We were glad to have John on the team, bringing with him his considerable experience in this type of work. The end result, and the process by which we got there, was good. John and ejet are to be commended for the way the project was handled."
