Swissport International, the world’s leading provider of ground services to the aviation sector, has appointed its new management team to run the ground handling operations at Brussels Airport.

Swissport is pleased to announce its new management team that will be heading the Ground Handling operations at Brussels Airport. Marcel Buelens as CEO and Alex Weidmann in his function as COO will lead and manage Swissport’s Ground Handling operations in Brussels. Swissport Cargo Services will remain under the lead of Managing Director Patrick Minsart.

Juan Jose Andres Alvez, Executive Vice President Ground Handling in Europe, Middle East, Asia and Africa, and John Batten, Executive Vice President Cargo are very pleased that they could attract some of the industry’s top managers to lead the new team in Brussels to successfully manage Swissport’s operations in future. “Alex Weidmann is a proven expert in operations who will be sent from our headquarters in Zürich while Patrick Minsart and Marcel Buelens are both Belgian citizens and well experienced experts in the industry. We are very confident that these three managers will be able to guarantee the high quality standards Swissport stands for and lead Swissport in Belgium to further growth. These appointments will ensure the business has a solid footing that will create competitiveness and attractiveness for Brussels Airport as well as guarantee local employment.”

 Patrick Minsart is currently Managing Director of Swissport Cargo Services Belgium where he has been successful in developing this business and taking it to the position it is today, poised for continued growth.

Marcel Buelens was previously CEO of Brussels South Charleroi Airport from 2006 to 2009 where he was instrumental for the airports strong growth and position during this time. He has extensive international experience within ground handling and logistics, including overseas assignments in Hong Kong and in the Middle East.

Alex Weidmann has 28 years of International expertise in the aviation industry. Alex in his last role was Manager for Special Projects at Swissport Zurich where he was leading the tender project for Brussels. He has built up a vast amount of experience in similar roles in Los Angeles, Manila and Paris.

As we build for the future, additional appointments to further enhance its parallel organisations in Cargo and Ground Handling will be announced including a shared service centre consisting of Human Resource and Finance where both divisions, Ground Handling and Cargo will benefit from operational synergies.
