HAURATON at Warsaw-Chopin Airport, Poland

Warsaw-Chopin Airport is an international airport located in the Włochy district of Warsaw.

As Poland’s busiest airport, Warsaw-Chopin manages just under 40% of the country’s air passenger traffic.

HAURATON RECYFIX HICAP 5300, 8300 and 10300 Slot Channels were installed in two separate pavement expansion projects (PPS 12 and PPS 13) undertaken by Budimex SA and Skanska SA during 2013 / 2014.

HAURATON Pre-Cast Concrete Chambers (F 900) were also provided for access and outlet points within channel runs.

HAURATON also supplied four AQUAFIX SKG Coalescence Separators / Glycol Tanks manufactured in steel for treatment and storage of hydrocarbons and de-icing solutions in surface water discharged from the PPS 12 and PPS 13 pavements.

In April 2020 the world’s largest and heaviest aircraft (Antonov An-225 Mriya) visited Warsaw-Chopin Airport in Poland, carrying COVID-19 relief goods (PPE equipment) from China. The photo shows this aircraft resting on the RECYFIX HICAP Slot Channel system during the visit.

Sadly, the Antonov An-225 Mriya aircraft was destroyed during hostilities in Ukraine.

HAURATON systems are subject to extreme conditions at the airport:

• Winter temperatures often dip well below freezing requiring de-icing equipment with corrosive glycol solutions.

• The world’s largest aircraft impose significant loads and dynamic forces on pavement surfaces and linear drainage systems.

• Airside operations vehicles and airport baggage tractors (towing trailers with small wheels) cause damage when turning sharply at high speed.

• Areas where fuel storage, maintenance, refuelling and de-fuelling of aircraft is undertaken require surface drainage systems that are resistant to fuels, oils and other corrosive chemicals.
