Increased air traffic in September

Domestic traffic at Avinor airports increased by 4.2 per cent, while international traffic decreased slightly (0.8). This constitutes a total increase of 2 per cent compared to September of last year.

Strong domestic increase
“The increased number of domestic passengers is tied to an improved Norwegian economy after the summer. There is now a greater sense of optimism among companies as well as the population,” says Vice President Traffic Development at Avinor, Jasper Spruit.

The decline in international traffic is mainly due to reduced capacities in Stavanger and Haugesund.

Offshore traffic continues its sharp decline, with 18.8 per cent in September.

Significant growth for Northern Norway and Oslo Airport
Bodø has experienced the most substantial increase among the major airports (7.3 per cent), followed by Tromsø (5.4) and Oslo (3.9).

In September, Oslo Airport saw seven days of more than 90,000 passengers. Friday 23 September was the busiest day recorded, with 94,631 passengers.

Bergen Airport Flesland saw a small increase of 0.2 per cent in total. In September, traffic at Trondheim Airport Værnes increased by 2,7 per cent in total compared to the same month last year. Traffic at Stavanger Aiport Sola decreased by 5.4 per cent. This was composed of an increase of 3.5 per cent in domestic traffic and a decrease of 18.2 per cent in international traffic and 19.5 in offshore helicopter traffic.

The only two airports that saw an increase in international traffic were Ålesund Airport Vigra (4.5 per cent) and Oslo (2.1 per cent).
