Indra - Airport Solutions

Company Indra
Date 21.08.2010

Indra will modernise the control centre of Donetsk airport. This is one of the Ukrainian cities that will host the matches of the 2012 Euro Cup. This project amounts to around € 4M and will be concluded by mid 2011.

The company will implement its Aircon 2100 automated air traffic management system in the centre to support approximation operations. This way, the centre will be prepared to cope with a great volume of flights on occasion of the international event.

Indra’s system will offer air traffic controllers a global vision of any movement in the air space. The solution combines the information coming from different sources such as radars, flight plans or meteorology systems. It also automates most of the activities and detects in advance possible conflict between aircrafts.

The new contract reinforces Indra’s position in Ukraine and its relationship with the country’s air navigation services provider, UKSATSE. Indra already supplied the  Dnepropetrovsk’s control centre, which coordinates air traffic in Eastern Ukraine. Besides this, the company deployed two monopulse secondary radars in Simferopol and Dnepropetrovsk.

Furthermore, Indra delivered a surface surveillance system (Surface Movement Radar) for the Donetsk airport. This avant-garde system allows operations at the airport in the event of very low visibility since it detects presence of aircraft, vehicles or even obstacles accurately.

In this occasion, the organisation of the event will be shared by Ukraine and Poland. Regarding Poland, most of the country’s air space is managed with Indra’s technology.

In 2005, Indra was awarded the contract to implement a unified system of air traffic management which incorporates cutting edge air space surveillance and automated traffic management systems. Within this project, Pegasus 21, we must highlight the start up of Warsaw’s control centre, one of the biggest in Europe.

Eastern Europe is one of the strategic markets for Indra, due to the significant growth of the countries’ economies during the last years. In this region, the company was engaged in the modernisation of the air traffic management infrastructures in Lithuania, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine or Macedonia. Besides this, Indra has also developed information technology projects for other sectors in Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Moldavia and Rumania.
