Selex ES, a Finmeccanica company, is attending the Passenger Terminal EXPO 2014, the world’s leading international airport conference and exhibition, taking place in Barcelona from 25th to 27th April 2014. The Finmeccanica company is exhibiting its smart integrated solutions towards green airports and CO2 emissions reduction , with special focus on Di-BOSS (Digital Building Operating System Solution) and the baggage handling sorters MBHS (Multi-Sorting Baggage Handling System) and MTTS (Multi-Sorting Tilt Tray System).

Selex ES’ complete portfolio of integrated airport solutions is shown through an interactive multi-touch- screen demo which presents the company’s solutions for the Airport, considered like a "smart infrastructure". Not only traditional airport solutions like Air Traffic Management, Baggage Handling Systems and Security but also smart mobility, energy management, logistics and ICT: Selex ES offers modular intelligence-led solutions that improve efficiency and sustainability and enhance the passenger experience.

Energy management solutions are displayed by Di-BOSS (Digital Building Operating System Solution), a platform neutral “cockpit” that provides situational awareness by integrating data from existing independent building systems (HVAC, BMS, occupancy, elevators, fire and security) to proactively correct, adjust, and re- commission these systems for total performance optimization, efficiency and reduced carbon footprint.

Selex ES’ smart baggage handling solutions on show include the MBHS (Multi-Sorting Baggage Handling System),and the MTTS (Multi-Sorting Tilt Tray System) both relying on technological advanced solutions, which ensure up to 30% energy saving if compared to standard solutions.

MBHS (Multi-sorting Baggage Handling System) is one of the most advanced, high-performance cross- belt sorter for airport baggage handling today available on the market, which manages any kind of baggage including fragile, high friction surface or irregular in shape. A series of innovations and improvements place the MBHS as one of the most advanced, high performance baggage handling systems on the market. The MTTS (Multi-sorting Tilt-Tray System) is the new Selex ES’ sorter proposal based on the innovative Direct Drive Tilting Motion technology which, thanks to the use of Curved Section Linear Synchronous Motor, significantly increases sorting accuracy while drastically reducing energy consumption and maintenance costs.

Selex ES has already developed important projects in the airport sector. A global leader in the Air Traffic Mangement with a customer base spanning more than 150 countries, the company has delivered at Rome Fiumicino airport the Net6000 system for transit baggage handling that has reduced by over 40% the amount of lost or mishandled luggage. Selex ES has also delivered the baggage handling and sorting system for Terminal 5 of that same airport. Among the latest contract awards relevant to baggage handling systems, Selex ES lists Paris-Orly airport, the second French stopover and the 10th in Europe with the international traffic of 2,7 million passengers, as well as Grenoble Isère airport.
