Materna IPS installs self bag drop solution at KUL

Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the busiest airport in Malaysia and the main gateway to the country. The airport’s ground handler, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), commissioned the German provider Materna IPS to provide a state-of-the-art self bag drop (SBD) solution.

Self-service to improve the passenger journey

With the revolutionary Materna IPS system Flex.Go, the airport chose an innovative baggage conveyor system for their passengers. A total of six SBD units were commissioned on April 17 and have since been responsible for the second step of the 2-step baggage check-in process. The Materna IPS SBD systems provide passengers with an easy and quick way to drop off and insert their baggage into the baggage handling system. In this way, the self-service solution helps to minimize waiting times and reduce queues at the counters.

In addition, the Flex.Go kiosks are equipped with an integrated camera system for automatic conveyability checks and tub detection. With a high degree of accuracy, the shape and dimensions of baggage are measured and used for volume control and classification. The same camera solution can also help prevent inadmissible items from entering the airport’s BHS.

Materna IPS is proud to be part of this exciting project that marks a new chapter in optimizing the passenger experience at KUL.
