Logan Teleflex - Total Worldwide Baggage Handling Capability

A new Departures baggage handling system has been installed by Logan Teleflex at Ras Al Khaimah to enable the international airport to more efficiently handle increasing passenger numbers flying to and from the Persian Sheikhdom of Ras Al Khaimah.

Last year, the rapidly growing airport, located in the northern part of the United Arab Emirates, saw passenger figures soar by 58.5% in the first quarter compared to the same period the year before. As a result, the airport operator has embarked on an expansion programme of its facilities to handle six scheduled carriers and around 25 charter airlines. The airport has also offered air cargo, aircraft maintenance and aviation training facilities since being founded in 1976.

Following a competitive tender process, Ras Al Khaimah contracted Logan Teleflex, a key function of Daifuku’s global Airport Baggage Handling (ABH) Division, to upgrade its baggage handling capabilities.   

Logan Teleflex worked with UAE partner, Bardawil Aviation, to install a new Departures system comprising ten two-stage check-in conveyors with integrated weigh scales, feeding through to two inline x-ray screening machines.

Logan Teleflex supplied all of the equipment for the project and supervised the installation of the entire mechanical and electrical work.

The project included integrating existing front of house Smith Heimann x-ray screening machines with the new check-in conveyors whilst maintaining the airports existing live operations. Smith Heimann provided the interface software modules to connect the screening equipment with the check-ins.
