Airline strengthens supply chain security

Lufthansa Cargo became the first foreign air carrier to become Partners in Protection (PIP) validated. PIP is a voluntary Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) program that aims to strengthen and enhance supply chain security in a partnership between CBSA in the Canadian Government and private industry.

"Lufthansa Cargo is continuing to take the steps necessary in order to provide the utmost in security measures within our network. The PIP program further outlines our commitment, along with our industry partners, to increase security standards while balancing trade facilitation. We are honored to partner with CBSA in fulfilling the requirements of the program." stated James LoBello, Head of Security The Americas at Lufthansa Cargo.

Similar to the United States Customs Trade Partnership against Terrorism (C-TPAT) program, which Lufthansa Cargo has been a member since 2004, the membership in the PIP program expands the opportunity for Lufthansa Cargo to work closer with the Canadian government and share best practices and ideas in strengthening the supply chain.

Achim Martinka, Vice President The Americas of Lufthansa Cargo emphasizes: "In order to remain as a leader in the industry we must continue to refine our processes and integrate high security standards in our business model. Our participation in the PIP program will allow the expansion of our security practices while providing benefits to our customers".
