PASADENA, CA (March 2, 2009) – Parsons is pleased to announce that the Parsons–Odebrecht Joint Venture (POJV) in conjunction with the Miami–Dade Aviation Department will officially kick off construction of the new 1.27-mile Automated People Mover (APM) at Miami International Airport (MIA) today.

POJV’s $259 million design-build contract includes constructing the guideway and stations as well as installing the full turnkey operating system and delivering eight state-of-the-art Crystal Mover APM vehicles.

“We are excited to get construction under way,” said Jim Shappell, Parsons Group President. “Not only will this project help relieve roadway congestion, it also serves as an example of the Miami–Dade Aviation Department’s commitment to quality service.”

The MIA APM system will run between the airport and the Miami Intermodal Center (MIC), an off-airport multimodal transportation center that includes transfers to regional rail, bus, and rental car services. The system will use cutting-edge Crystal Mover vehicle technology provided by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America, Inc. Crystal Mover vehicle technology is presently operating at several major airports.
