Compact solution for automated baggage handling

At the leading aviation trade show Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE), taking place in Cologne on March 15-17, 2016, the IT service provider Materna will present the new Self Bag Drop Kiosk Merkur.

As a compact retrofit solution, Merkur provides all the functions required by a modern self bag drop system, such as scanning of identification documents, printing of bag tags or paying for excess luggage. Due to an ever increasing passenger traffic, airports and airlines are increasingly relying on self-service offers. Airports cannot only space-savingly store the new solution, but they can also make use of the existing infrastructure.

All-round service with a compact solution

For the automated baggage drop-off, Materna has already developed several kiosk systems. The retrofit solution Merkur is the recent solution of a series of self bag drop systems. It allows passengers to easily drop off their luggage at the airport. Passengers can scan their boarding pass and print out the appropriate bag tags for their bags themselves at the machine. Merkur also provides a linerless bag tag that is particularly easy to handle due to a special coating. For overweight baggage or a higher number of pieces of luggage, the users of the self bag drop system may use their credit card to pay the relevant fee directly at the machines. Thus, the airport saves the hassle of baggage drop at the counter and still complies with the prescribed safety regulations.

We have the fitting solution for everyone

Other bag drop solutions, such as the machine Phoenix that has already been displayed in 2014, are presented by Materna at the PTE. Substantially larger by comparison, this kiosk provides many technical features and requires very little maintenance due to its large paper capacity. Just like Merkur, it is available with an optional payment function. The Phoenix kiosk is available for both check-in and automatic baggage handling.

Visitors of the trade fair are invited to test the new products at Materna Stand 6050.
