NATS - Air Traffic Control Services

Company NATS
Date 08.03.2011

NATS has been praised at the world’s premier air traffic control exhibition for its work to develop a low-cost, effective tool to help private flyers avoid infringing controlled airspace.

The device, called Aware, is manufactured and marketed by Airbox Aerospace with crucial input from experts at NATS. Using GPS, it maps the boundaries of controlled airspace to offer general aviation pilots enhanced situational awareness and improve safety in the skies for all.

At the Jane’s ATC Awards and CANSO ATM dinner in Amsterdam last night, NATS won the category for Service Provision and was recognised for its partnership work in producing the device.

NATS Chief Executive Richard Deakin, who collected the award, said: “Our work with Airbox Aerospace shows how we bring our commitment to safety to life for the benefit of everyone in the aviation community. This innovation helps private pilots enjoy their flying while avoiding infringing controlled airspace.”

NATS was also short-listed for the Enabling Technology and Environment awards at the event, which sees air navigation service providers, airports and manufacturers around the world come together for a three-day trade exhibition and conference.
