Northrop Grumman Corporation’s (NYSE: NOC) Europe-based air traffic management subsidiary, Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, has been awarded a contract by Korea’s Public Procurement Service (PPS) to provide an air traffic communication system that will deliver air-ground communication for the Incheon air traffic control center.

The contract was awarded following an international competitive tender process. The new system will upgrade existing communications infrastructure and will also include recording equipment, and a remote control and monitoring system (RCMS), to allow centralised awareness of the equipment performance and availability.

To provide the required coverage radio sub-systems will be located at six sites across South Korea with centralised control and management based at Incheon. The system architecture is based around Northrop Grumman Park Air System’s T6 range of VHF and UHF air traffic control radio equipment.

Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems is partnered with JoongAng Hitel, the local contractor for installation services. This contract is the second phase to replace old equipment.

The contract is expected to be completed at the end of 2012 and follows on from previous contracts awarded to Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems for the supply of air traffic control systems across South Korea, including Gimpo International Airport.
