Operates as a Fully Independent International Civil Aviation Consultancy

Company LFV Aviation Consulting
Date 17.04.2015

Tuesday, April 21st will be a historic day for LFV. In October 2014 LFV got the operational approval for commencing Remote Tower Services from our Remote Tower Centre (RTC) in Sundsvall, serving Örnsköldsvik airport over 150 km away. At April 21st 2015 the operation starts on a H24 basis. This is the start of a new generation of air traffic control – LFV is leading it.

The opening will be a milestone in the development of Remote Tower Services, a project that has been going on for about ten years. In 2006 a RTC was established in Malmö, 100 km from the testing airport Ängelholm where the development was going on until 2012 when it was moved to Sundsvall and Örnsköldsvik. In 2009, 2011 and 2013, LFV together with Saab demonstrated the technology for invited guest and in October 2014 the Swedish Transport Agency, gave LFV the operational approval to conduct remote air traffic services at Örnsköldsvik airport.

– In a long-term, this will increase accessibility to the airport for our customers and at the same time maintain the high quality and safety level. The journey begins now and the future looks exciting, says Erik Bäckman, head of the RTC.
