Operates as a Fully Independent International Civil Aviation Consultancy

Company LFV Aviation Consulting
Date 21.01.2013
LFV continues for another week with 80 percent capacity at the Air Traffic Control Centre in Stockholm after the implementation of a new technical system for air navigation services on the 5th of January. It was decided on Friday. It is estimated that the capacity may cause minor delays in some sectors.

On the night between 4 and 5 January 2013, LFV’s air traffic control system COOPANS – Eurocat at the Air Traffic Control Centre in Stockholm was upgraded. The operational launch went well.

Up until now air traffic has been hardly affected and the minutes of delay have been minimal. For safety reasons, LFV decreased capacity for first two weeks following the upgrade.

Current situation
You can follow developments in the current situation with possible capacity limitations via Eurocontrol’s portal NOP.

Background
In March, LFV launched the technical platform Eurocat for air traffic control which has undergone minor upgrades on a continuous basis.  The launch that was done in Malmö on 3-4 January 2012 and which has now been carried out in Stockholm on 4-5 January 2013 can be described as a platform change.

The modernisation of our system, meets EU demands for a doubling of airspace capacity.  We are creating a joint European technical standard which facilitates cooperation. Future investments are thus rationalised for the benefit of the aviation industry and its passengers. Both Ireland and Denmark have changed to the system.
