PASADENA, CA (May 28, 2009) – Parsons is pleased to announce that it will participate in the dedication of the Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) National Ignition Facility (NIF) on May 29, 2009. The facility, located at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, California, was completed in January and houses the world’s largest and most powerful high-energy laser system.

Over a 10-year period starting in 1995, Parsons was the design firm for this one-of-a-kind facility, and in partnership with LLNL, prepared the design and supported the construction of NIF in two phases: Conventional Facilities and Beampath Infrastructure Systems. The Conventional Facilities design encompassed the Laser and Target Area Building (LTAB) and associated utilities and site work. The LTAB design involved stringent vibration and thermal criteria to ensure proper operation of the laser equipment. The Beampath Infrastructure Systems encompassed the placement and the utilities’ connections to much of the NIF equipment components.
