Network analysis with Security Assessment and System Optimization

Berlin, 19 November 2014 – PSI AG has received the first order from the network operator Tennet for the delivery of the Systems Security Assessment and System Optimization (SASO) for the network analysis and decision support. The project has already been commenced. Tennet and PSI have newly designed the SASO for the network operator allowing for a concentrated and simplified analysis of the network and providing suggestions for the elimination of existing or expected disruptions.

This should make it possible in the future to fulfil the high demands resulting from the volatile input of renewable energies, the reduction in capacity of large power stations and the transportation of electricity controlled primarily by the market. First of all, a module for the management of idle power will be developed. The planned components include analysis, decision support and innovative visualisation. The basic data will be drawn from the existing PSIcontrol control system, which will be connected to the SASO. The analysis will be performed on the basis of classical network calculations.

The decision support will be based on algorithmic processes and, in the future, also on “computational intelligence“ (CI) such as PSI’s own fuzzy logic or neuronal networks. The SASO system is primarily conceived as a system independent of the control system so as to keep the mutual interference to a minimum.

On the basis of its own software products, PSI AG develops and integrates complete solutions for energy management (gas, oil, electricity, heat, energy trading), production management (mining, metals, automotive, mechanical engineering, logistics) and infrastructure management for transport and safety. PSI was founded in 1969 and employs 1,700 persons worldwide.
